Colourists and their Contemporaries21 June – 4 SeptemberThe Colourists are now the most famous group of painters in Scottish history with their works now receiving world wide attention. Yet their Scottish contemporaries are less well known despite playing a crucial role in the development of a vital and dynamic period in Scottish visual art. This exhibition shows works by Cadell, Peploe and Fergusson in the context of their contemporaries and includes paintings by D.Y. Cameron, David Gauld, George Henry, Robert Gemmell Hutchison, John Lavery, John Maclauchlan Milne, R.M. Stevenson and E.A. Taylor and works by the Greenock born artists Sir James Guthrie and George Telfer Bear, who was one of ‘Les Peintres Ecossais’ exhibiting with the Colourists at the Galerie Georges Petit in 1931.
